Director Oscar Koršunov:
Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" work is usually imagined as an ode to romantic love. In fact, it is a social drama where simple love in dramatic circumstances takes the highest sound of tragedy. I am most interested in this tragedy that love is born and unfolded in hatred, Verona's war atmosphere. I wanted to emphasize this paradox: hatred is killing, but it is the spark of love.
It can also be talked about at the divine level - love is born of hatred to defeat the latter. It is possible that the hatred itself is actually born out of nothing. The example of Montekiai and Capules is eloquent, because no one knows the cause of strife. Their causes of war were all forgotten by the oldest. The young still accepts hatred and defends it as a tradition. We often nurture traditions that create a confrontation from alleged differences and support hatred. This is, unfortunately, the increasing principle of concentrating the public in finding enemies.
When I was building a performance, I wanted to look at how hatred is shaping the differences and becoming the reason for everything. It seems to me that hatred is the basis of differences that, between Montekiai and Capulets, establish the illusion of differences, deceives and further confront them. This is how the whole society shared.
Love abolishes the differences. She is the only one shows that there is basically no conflict between the clans. Love creates freedom and there are no opposites in freedom. Unfortunately, Romeo and Juliet discover freedom only in death. The sacrificed freedom destroys not only the modernity determined by children, but also the tradition of parents.
