"Buddha in the attic"
(Performance according to Julie Otsuka's novel by Japanese -born writer)
Japanese -born writer J. Otsuka's novel "Buddha in the attic" (published several years ago and in Lithuanian) was created according to a true twentieth century. At the beginning of the 19th century, Japanese expats to Tokyo were in the life stories: after World War I, Japanese men sailed to San Francisco to look for a job - some of them returned to Japan, others stayed in America and started starting families. He sent a photo (not necessarily real) to Japan and waited for the bride to choose his future from photography. The author follows in the footsteps of "Photography Brides" - traveling on a boating trip to America, watching the first meeting with a future husband, dreaming of a magical life in America. Everyday rituals last until the fateful morning of Perl Harbor, after which the Japanese in America were massively evicted from their homes, removed and pierced - just disappeared as if they had not existed.
The performance is created on the principle of traditional Japanese theater, which tells the story of combining dance, movement, text and live music on stage. This creates a peculiar stage language of the brand (performance director and performer Birutė Mar, studied traditional Japanese theater and dance in Tokyo), which tells the story of its roots, connection to the past and ancestry in the era of the nations of the nations of the nations, about the nation's self as strength and way to survive.
