The performance, inspired by Arūnas Žebriūnas' film, actress Vaiva Mainelytė's life lines, John Cassavetes intimate cinema and Kazys Boruta's "Baltaragio Mill" creates a narrative about the influence of collective myths on our identities.
The creators of the performance raise questions: Do we want to stop time to survive it or to maintain control? The narrative is constructed through the perspective of young actress Jurga, who will be embodied by Alvydė Pikturnaitė. She no longer understands or really loves or just plays the role of love. The world that Jurga once wanted to conquer becomes empty, and the pleasure of this void can no longer be filled.
Performance playwright and director Naubetas Jasinskas: "We are creating a whole new interpretation of the Devil's Bride - it will not be a new building of Boruta or a movie staging with young actors. This performance raises the question - whether the reconstruction is love for the past or the inability to create and be in the present. The work is relevant today because we live in culture obsessed with reconstructions, thus fostering a dangerous relationship with memory. The desire to restore, rebuild, return becomes a safe area where real questions about the present can be avoided. ”
The play "The Devil's Bride" consists of two parts inspired by various sources. In the first part, the viewer is immersed in the memory of the legendary film "The Bride of the Devil" - it becomes not only a stage of reconstruction, but also an inner memory of the actress, longing, dream. From the point of the past, from the romanticized narrative of love and eternity, the second part is the present. Here is a meeting of the same characters - man and woman - today: their connection has broken down, love has ended, promises faded. We see the collapse, not the fulfillment of the cultural myth. It is this fracture that allows you to deconstruct the myth - that love solves everything. The second part of the performance shows that the long -awaited "lived long and happily" never came. It is a modern reflection on the power of time, the discrepancy between memories and reality, and the painful need to look at the myth without a romanticized longing.
