ATTENTION: In the performance, the dancers perform the choreography completely without costumes, including the intimate areas of the body. Recommended age: N-16 The performance is the manifesto of the NEW BALTIC DANCE festival. "I created 'Tragedy' from a simple and terrible sentence: 'To be human is not to create humanity - and that is our human tragedy.' It still sounds without losing its power. In the current context of Lithuania, this sentence acquires a new intensity. But tragedy brings more than just misfortune. It also brings hope – hope that comes from what unites us. It is an individual struggle offered for a greater struggle than man himself - a gesture of defiance, a challenge to the gods. I would be honored if "Tragedy" finds its place as a manifesto of the NEW BALTIC DANCE festival - as a symbol of the struggle for dignity, freedom and culture. With respect and solidarity to the civil society of Lithuania, Olivier Dubois". The premiere of "Tragédie" at the Avignon Festival in 2012 was like a choreographic "blow from below", immediately becoming a work-manifesto - a real monument of contemporary dance. Ten years after the premiere, Olivier Dubois rewrote this choreographic poem for eighteen performers. The new version draws the viewer into the "sense of the world" with the same force. Dizzying and chaotic. The great cycle of life is played out, created and dismantled by giant percussion instruments, to the rhythm of the ceaseless ebb and flow. Humanity is written, erased and written again... The endless search! Tragédie performers express their belonging to a human community. They stomp their feet on the ground, walk, stretch, face each other, slide, kneel, appear, disappear, merge to keep from falling over... bearing witness to our common destiny. For more than a decade, Olivier Dubois has been shaking up the French contemporary dance scene with some of the most radical choreographic works. 2014-2017 he worked as the director of Ballet du Nord, and in 2011 Dance Europe magazine listed him among the twenty-five best dancers in the world. His unique experience combines creativity, interpretation and pedagogy. in 2009 Dubois began the Étude critique pour un trompe-l'œil trilogy with Révolution at the Ménagerie de Verre in Paris in 2011. followed by the solo show Rouge (Red), and the trilogy ended with the provocative Tragédie (Tragedy), which premiered in 2012. at the Avignon Festival. For Marseille - European Capital of Culture 2013, Dubois created Élégie (Elegy) for the National Ballet of Marseille. In the same year, he was recognized as the best choreographer at the Danza & Danza Awards for Tragédie and Élégie. Olivier Dubois currently works at the cultural center CENTQUATRE-Paris and L'Onde theater and art center Velizi-Vilaqublè (78) as an associate artist with his dance company COD.
