Don Juan can be considered the calling card of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. As the famous music historian Hermann Abert wrote, "The essence of Don Juan's character is not the ability to seduce one or another woman who happened to come across, even if there were "mille e trè", but an uncontrollable desire for life and love, raging as if the forces of nature had escaped to freedom."

On the LNOBT stage, this most famous Mozart opera is staged by director John Fulljames, who has directed at the world's major opera houses: Milan's La Scala, London's Covent Garden, Madrid's Teatro Real, Barcelona's Liceu and Paris' Théâtre du Châtelet.

John Fulljames: "Death runs an invisible thread throughout Don Juan: the Comandante is obviously dying, Dona Anna is considering taking her own life, Don Ottavi says he is ready to sacrifice his life to avenge his fiancée, Leporel is narrowly killed, Mazet is almost killed, and we fear for Cerlina... But of course, the most important death, which becomes the long-awaited and delayed climax of the opera, is Don Juan's own death - it is inevitable and even desired, because the protagonist chooses death and even hell, rather than going against his nature. And this is understandable, because the individualistic threat to Don Juan's freedom can only be overcome by his death - an expression of order that reaffirms itself. All traces of Don Juan are swept away, and society continues to live without him."
