Vilnius City Dance Theater "Low Air" presents the premiere "Two forward, one forward". Dance artist Joseph Simon first came to know dance through break culture, and today he explores the intersections of ballet, house and contemporary dance, searching for a dialogue between different techniques and philosophies.
Joseph Simon's latest work, Two Forward, One Back, was born out of an ongoing research cycle, Ballet Fantasy. The performance expands the boundaries of classical ballet with the help of street and club dance culture. The performance explores how two different worlds of dance can fit in one body - institutional and dance based on community and liberation. It raises questions not only about aesthetics and technique, but also about power and freedom of action, the relationship between tradition and progress, lightness and weight.
In the performance "Two forward, one back", Joseph collaborates with four young Lithuanian dancers who have completed dance studies abroad and have strong classical and street dance basics. Two of them are alumni of "Low Air" theater: Ugnė Irena Laurinavičiūtė studied dance at the AHK Amsterdam University of the Arts, Vaiva Paukštė at the Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam. For the creative process, Gabrielle Emily Aidulis returned from abroad - ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands, and Urtė Groblytė - P.A.R.T.S., a contemporary dance school. in Brussels.
This is the first work of a foreign choreographer produced by the "Low Air" duo - Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius.
