The story of Roberto Zucco is timeless. The son kills the father, but the reason for the murder remains unclear. It is precisely the fact that it is not known what provoked the son to the act of death that gives every play and era, every generation the opportunity to look for the reason for the murder in its own time, in its own era. We can name the tragedy of our time as we experience it today and fill the question of crime with our own truth.
Our "Roberto Zucco" becomes a reflection of mythical heroes and historical figures in today's world, in whose fate we can see the cult of power and strength and the most prominent worshipers of this cult - Achilles, Samson, Alexander the Great, Napoleon, masters of empires of the 20th and 21st centuries.
To stage this performance is to search for an answer to the question, what happens when we look at the image of a hero by removing the historical distance, as if he were between us? What happens when we see him for what he really is? Roberto Zucco is a challenge to consciousness: are we able to realize that what was worshiped in the past is what we must expose today?
One of the oldest works of European literature - Homer's Iliad - begins with words that formulate both one of the fundamental causes of human suffering and one of the essential directions in the search for an answer to the question of Zucco's murder:
"Sing the anger of Peleus' son Achilles, goddess
The terrible malice that brought so much trouble to the Achaeans.”
The story of Roberto Zucco is the story of Achilles' anger and pride. The fate of a person who does not apologize and does not forgive. Excellence is born in not apologizing and not forgiving. Pride that becomes the death of love.
