The Youth Theater started the 60th season by director Krystian Lupa's performance based on Thomas Mann's novel The Mountain Mountain, which saw the world exactly 100 years ago. For the first time, one of Thomas Mann's great works was seen by the Lithuanian theater scene. It is special that it is being built by Polish director Krystian Lupa, one of the last active Mohicans of the High Generation of European Theater. For this building, the director brought together an international team of creators and a large actors' ensemble, with most of the youth theater troupe actors. The premiere of the Magic Hill took place at the Zalzburg International Festival on August 20. 5 performances at the Historical Salzburg Theater Landestheater. One of the most authoritative stage art forums in the world is Coprodiuser, the construction of the "Magic Hill". At the Zalzburg Festival of the Lithuanian Tour, where only the premiere of the world's most prominent opera and drama theater is presented - an exceptional case in our theater history. Its exclusivity is also emphasized by the fact that the Lithuanian theater showed the German audience the interpretation of Thomas Mann's most important works. The Magic Mountain has completed this year's festival drama program. Lithuanian spectators saw the premiere of the Magic Hill at the Youth Theater on September 20. As he began writing a "vicious mountain" as a brief satirical short story on the eve of World War I, Mann terminated his job due to war. He later acknowledged that the war enriched the contents of the book indescribably. After the war, the writing of the "Magic Mountain" began, with a completely different ambition. The novel appeared only in 12 years, in 1924. Named the "vicious mountain" as the work of his life closest to his own personality, Mann said that the novel most embodies the leitmotif, the magic formula that binds the past with the future, the future with the past.
The journey is the key to Krystian Lupa's creative method. This is a trip to an unknown. It is based on exploration and collective work that penetrates the secrets of the literary work and the human psyche. In the case of a Magic Hill, it is primarily a journey to Mann's own personality and his secret relationship with Hans Kastorp's main character. It is important that Mann did not experience his hero's path, but wanted to experience it, and had to design it himself, based on the experiences of other people and written sources. This writing journey for Mann became more real than the real family life hiding his true passions. For Krystan, it is important that the performance feels what the "vicious mountain" meant Thomas Mann himself and the world in which it was created. It also reflects the circumstances of the performance itself. Two acts imagine their performance. In the first we would see the world before the war, and in the second we have already affected the war experience. Through the two -act dramaturgical contrast, the director aims to show world evolution since the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century optimistic faith in man's mind and new technical discoveries to all illusions of the crash and deep anxiety about the future of the world, close to today ... Interpreting the "vicious mountain". the character of the collective narrator. In the performance, he will be embodied by separate characters, becoming narrator at different moments of the performance. By naming the collective narrator, Lupa uses a metaphor for painting. Every individual character with a brush is like a brush. On the stage, three brushes have become, and seventeen are waiting for their turn ... Everyone has hunger for life and experience. Similar to the one Thomas Mann gave his hero. Therefore, on the one hand, Hans Kastorp is a work of Mann's imagination and self -perification. On the other hand, the actor himself is self -consuming as an opportunity to be yourself. She gives birth to hunger to tell something personal ... from this common hunger and should be born a "vicious mountain" narrator as a man of our time. Young actor Donatas Želvys is creating the lead role of Hans Kastorp in the performance "The Magic Mountain". Other roles are actors Matas Dirginčius, Valentinas Masalskis, Viktorija Kuodytė, Aleksas Kazanavičius, Sergey Ivanovas, Alvydė Pikturnaitė, Aušra Giedraitytė, Janina Matekonytė, Aušra Pukelytė, Ignas Ciplijauskas, Paulina Taujanskaitė, Matas Sigli. Jonikaitė, Aistė Rocevičiūtė. The Magnus Mountain is the third building of director Krystiano Lupa at the Lithuanian Theater. Thanks to Lupa, Lithuanian theaters discover a new world of theater and the prominent twentieth century. Writers Thomas Bernhard, W.G. Sebaldo, Thomas Mann's literary continents. It is one big journey that encourages its participants to look for new ways of theatrical narrative and to raise the fundamental questions about man and theater tasks in our time.
