The Youth Theater will begin its 61st season with a premiere. Playwright Henrik Ibsen's play "The Wild Duck" (1884) is staged by Oskars Koršunovas, perhaps the most prominent figure of contemporary Lithuanian theater.
This production of H. Ibsen's drama is a continuation of the consistent strategy of the Youth Theater repertoire. The theater, considering the modern man and the psychological and philosophical topics relevant to him, turns to important and complex texts of world literature and dramaturgy.
H. Ibsen's play "The Wild Duck" tells the story of the Ekdal family, whose seemingly happy everyday life is disrupted by a guest from the past. Gregers Verlė, who strives to tell only the truth in any case, reveals to the hosts certain secrets about each of their pasts and destroys the illusion of their happy family and home. Where others see happiness, Verlė sees a lie, and the symbol of this family trapped in illusion and lies is the convalescing wild duck kept in the Ekdals' attic, which was once shot by the passionate hunter old Ekdals.
This stage version of "Wild Duck" is not only a return of the Youth Theater to the themes and philosophy of H. Ibsen's dramas, which have been interpreted on its stage many times, but also a symbolic attempt by O. Koršunov to "dive" into well-known dramaturgical material once again, as well as the director's return to the theater where the director's debut work on the professional stage also found its home more than 35 years ago - the play "Ten buti chia (Pūmēmaiės)".
Premiere: 2025 October 1
