THEATRICAL EXCURSION FOR CHILDREN
Duration 1 hour
Do you know how a performance is born? How do actors embody the most different characters and what funny stories can they tell from their daily work in the theater? Do actors have superstitions they follow before going on stage? Can you tell the difference between makeup and makeup and how long it lasts? And what are wigs made of? What does the character's beard go with? What is a "repetitive echo"? Where is the sound coming from? What does a "well-lit actor" mean on stage? How can you create different moods, environments, seasons with the help of sound and light? What does a props or dresser do in a theater? Where does an actor in a Kinkong or polar bear costume look at the audience? How much does the armor weigh? What is behind the stage curtain - what the audience can't see?
You will learn all this and much more on a journey full of adventure and discovery through the mysterious world of the theater. After all, it is always so magical to look where normally it is not possible, not allowed. When you come to the Vilnius Small Theater, you first find yourself in the dressing room, then you go up to the cafe located in the theater lobby, where you enjoy delicacies, and only then you solemnly, with the feeling of an upcoming celebration, enter the audience hall, which radiates the magic of the stage. But what is behind the stage curtain? Ilona Kvietkutė, an actress of the Vilnius State Small Theater and a laureate of the "Golden Cross of the Stage", created a unique program of a theatrical excursion, allowing this curtain to be lifted.
First of all, you will hear the century-old history of the building at Gediminas prospekt 22, where the Vilnius Small Theater is located. At the beginning of the 20th century, the "Rūta" society, which was extremely significant for Lithuanian culture, operated here, organizing concerts, lectures and theater performances. The most prominent cultural figures of the time, signatories of the Act of Independence participated in the activities of the society. From the very beginning, the building was surrounded by a spirit of exclusivity, an aura of legend associated with Czeslaw Milosz, Jaschos Heifetz and other famous names. Did you know that the most famous Lithuanian symbolist painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis painted the large-format canvas for the Lithuanian cultural society "Rūta" located in the current building of the Vilnius State Small Theater? I wonder where this impressive creation is now?..
The architecture of the building is also unique: it is interesting that the audience hall of the Vilnius Small Theater has a unique glass block ceiling - only two such have survived in Europe - here, in Vilnius, and in Prague. The interior of the theater premises is characterized by a tasteful restored authentic 19th and 20th century. junction style and modernism. Not only that, the building where the Vilnius Small Theater has been operating since 2005 was the tallest in the capital at that time, more than a century ago! I wonder how many floors it had then?
You will be invited later where you normally the audience does not get caught, – to the backstage, the rehearsal hall, the make-up room, the costume warehouse, the workshop of art technicians. You will be given a unique opportunity to visit the "kitchen" of the currently rehearsed performance, try on different stage costumes and test props. Do you even know what a performance prop is? And what is it made of? During the tour, you can not only touch the objects used in the performances, but also try to guess how they are made. You will really be surprised by the imagination and ingenuity of the artists!
The main part of the tour takes place on the stage of the Vilnius Small Theater - here you will be enchanted by the actress Ilona Kvietkutė the ability to instantly create multiple characters: can you count how many they changed on stage and what they were? You will learn how the most different moods are created with the help of light and sound effects, how the elements raging on the stage are born - storm, fog, lightning - and how you can move from the city to nature on stage in one moment.
In an interactive, fun and in an extremely rich and informative tour of the Vilnius Little Theater, schoolchildren will not be passive listeners, but active participants. Many surprises and fun tasks, interesting discoveries and new experiences await you.
So we invite you to become the great wizards of Theater art for one hour!
