Vilnius Polish Theater Studio premiere "M.K. Čiurlionis. Trajectory" at Vilnius Old Theater
On November 7, the Vilnius Polish Theater is invited to the premiere of the performance "M.K. Čiurlionis. Trajectory" at the Vilnius Old Theater for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. One of the most impressive personalities of Lithuanian culture, at the same time, is an important part of the Polish artistic tradition, Čiurlionis is reborn on the stage as a creator who has constantly searched for new paths and united music, art, literature and philosophy with his trajectories.
The formal structure of the performance is reminiscent of the dreamy worlds of Čiurlionis' paintings that emerge on stage with the help of projections and actors. They intertwine with a linear narrative thread that leads through the artist's life path in 1894-1911. It is a story of studies, creative searches, two complex love experiences, close friendships and illness. In the performance we meet Sofia Kymantaite, the future wife of Čiurlionis, with composer Eugeni Morawski, artist Kazimierz Stormwski and Duke Michał Ogiński.
An important axis of the performance is the dialogue with the mysterious spirit character. He is at the same time a projection of Čiurlionis consciousness, the embodiment of philosophical ideas and a symbolic interlocutor leading the artist through his own inner searches. The Spirit takes on various forms on stage, sometimes becomes Ferdinand Ruschic, sometimes Juliusz Słowacki's King-Dvasia, and in the final scene at the doctor's half-way.
This performance is not only a tribute to Čiurlionis 'legacy, but also aims to talk about Čiurlionis' work as the trajectories in which the artist has constantly moved, crossing different disciplines, cultures and the boundaries of the time. The concept of the performance emphasizes art as a living, changing phenomenon - a movement that forms a spiritual journey and leaves a trace in history, the universe.
The creators of the performance are: directors Mariusz Malec and Lilija Keiikas, screenwriter Henryka Sokołowska, adaptation authors Jarosław Cymerman and Mariusz Malec.
"M.K. Čiurlionis. Trajectory" is an invitation to the audience to experience the world of Čiurlionis not only as a fact of art history, but as a relevant experience for the modern audience. It is a journey through music, images and lyrics that highlights the drama of the life and creation of the genius creator and the versatility of his legacy.
