St. On Valentine's Day, when the city is full of love and silent promises, we will invite the audience who bought tickets to the February 14th performance "Reunion of the Two Koreas" to stop by the "Ložė" cafe before the performance - there you will find a gently sparkling surprise: like love bubbles, which we don't say out loud, but we all understand.
Joëlis Pommerat (b. 1963) is a playwright and director, one of the most prominent theater phenomena in France in recent years. Often called by critics as an artist who found an original theatrical language, he is resoundingly called a theater alchemist who makes text, stage space, plot and image interact in a new way. In 1990, Mr. Pommerat formed his own theater troupe, which he named "Company of Louis Brouillard" (Louis Brouillard is a non-existent character, a mask that Mr. Pommerat invented to "mislead the audience a little"). The troupe does not have its own stage, tours a lot and has become one of the most famous French troupes working with contemporary drama
J. Pommerat's play "The Reunification of Two Koreas", written in 2013, is constructed from twenty scenes, twenty separate fictional dramas, in which the playwright unfolds a dramatic panorama of romantic relationships. According to Mr. Pommerat himself: "Love relationships lead to blindness because of their intensity." Basically, the play is not even about love itself, but about the impossibility of love.
"For me, this play is a look at love in the broadest sense, at the mechanism of its operation, the movement of the particles that make it up. While reading, I thought that love is not only about being together, but also about not being. That it is not only what unites us, but probably also what separates us, pushes us away from each other. I like that the play is dominated by an active position in relation to love, that it is illustrated by such sayings: "effort to understand", "find out", "feel", 'hear'.' (Monika Klimaitė)
This production is part of the theater laboratory "We - France", which took place from June 1 to 11. "We are France" is an attempt to look at the French drama in a new way, to update it, to read it in a new way. Sketches born in the laboratory based on selected plays by French authors were presented on June 9-11.
