During the Second World War, Edita Eger together with her mother, father, her sister and together with other Jewish families were sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. She, a ballet dancer and gymnast, danced for the so-called Angel of Death, Josef Mengele. The belief that everything that happens is temporary, that soon she will see her lover and parents, helped Edita to find strength and endure not only incomprehensible horror, cruelty, humiliation, dehumanization, exhausting work, hunger, diseases, the Road of Death, but also life after that: “When they freed us, I was so weak that I couldn't even speak, I couldn't move, I was lying in a pile of corpses. We became free, but we didn't know what to do with our freedom." Both of Edita's parents died in the gas chamber. Her boyfriend was killed a day before her release.

It took many years for Edita to learn to forgive - not only others, but also herself.

With her unique experience, she invites all sufferers to face trauma and choose the freedom to escape from it: "You cannot change what happened, you cannot change what you did or what was done to you. But you can choose to live now."

The performance, inspired by Edita Eger's book "Choice", aims to tell the story of a woman, through movement, dance, fragments of memories, dolls. having seen with her own eyes the unfathomable cruelty of humanity, hiding her memories for many years and eventually realizing that true freedom, true liberation from prison will happen when she will dare to return to the place from which many have never returned...

This is the story of all of us. A story of people who have gone through difficult experiences, people who cannot let go of the ghosts of the past, people who suffer from the prisons of their own thoughts.

“This material chose me... When I read The Choice, I thought it's such a shocking, inspiring, transformative book... but is it possible to transfer it to puppetry? scene? I kept pushing myself away, looking for something else, but this book just wouldn't let go...and I let it go.

I continue my duality journey. I am looking for a transformation of the living and the dead. A movement, a figure and a person... Fragments of a person, shells, memories of a former life fly on the stage, which are only "fragments, short moments or touches, which make up the collage of life." We constantly live among them. They surround, hinder, and sometimes push forward. I think it's important to meet your ghosts, look them in the eye and let them go.
