This is the story of the girl Magda, whose parents and entire family were exiled to Siberia at the end of the Second World War, when the Russians came after the withdrawal of the Germans. With the help of her teacher, who is also a partisan, the girl settles in a bunker, becoming a partisan herself, saving the lives of many people. The story is written based on the memories of witnesses and freedom fighters of those times, historical material and a story told by a former partisan liaison about a girl who lived in a bunker with the partisans for some time.
So this performance is about the courage of the most vulnerable - children - in critical situations and the survival instinct. Despite the complex personal experiences and historical context, the story remains warm and witty. Magdė, who grew up in one day, confesses to the carved Caretaker that she is a great coward. However, not knowing who the partisans are, the bunkers bravely accept the new reality and the unknown. After all, the brave is not the one who is not afraid. Courage is someone who faces their fear and takes action.
The action-packed play maintains the book's witty narrative tone, as Magdė herself and her Teacher, the only survivors of the bunker bombing, recount the events they remember.
The audience here becomes the characters and helps to narrate this thick and admirable experience.
Both the composer and I grew up listening to our parents' stories about the partisan grandfathers, so the subject itself becomes very personal. Apparently, there is not a family in Lithuania that has not been touched by military persecutions or attempts to resist. And in this global context, you want to tell these stories again and again, because listening to them convinces you once again that it is worth defending your values even against a much bigger enemy, because today we are free.
