Birutė Mar's new performance "Breast Milk" is created by the renowned contemporary Latvian writer Nora Iktena's novel. It is the history of mother and daughter in Soviet Latvia in 1969-1989, as well as the history of the country from Soviet stagnation to the declaration of independence. Everything is very recognizable - Soviet school, the stiffness of the system's ruthlessness, and the flair of impending freedom ... Also, turning back to the past raises the fundamental questions and the states and choices of our modern society.
In the performance Birutė Mar creates two roles - mother and daughter. The mother, the doctor, the daughter of the exile, from whom the Soviet authorities take away everything: not only a professional future and identity, but also the joy and meaning of life. Her daughter is the opposite of her mother, the lust full of life. It is a tale of an emotional ice wall that the mother sets away from her daughter - out of love and desire to protect. About the love, which is a salvation; About the environment where everything turns into all - even breast milk.
