Oxford Professor L. Carroll created a world where nonsense and childhood intertwine, asking: What remains of Louis?
In the performance of Klaipėda Youth Theater, which is directed by the Frenchman Didier Girauldon "Be Alice" is not limited to the rendering of the classic fairy tale. The aim is to explore this duality with the viewer, the dialogue between the author and his work, between reality and imagination.
The author Lewis Carroll's work is fascinated by his ability to reflect the nature of existence reminiscent of a dream, which also resembles the famous Shakespeare phrase: "The material from which dreams are made". In this work, the subtle distance between the words and the many meanings they can acquire, which can be attributed to them, are noted, depending on the mask. This play of words and their meanings reveals the most intimate truths of us, which, as reflections in the mirror, can sometimes be cruel but always magnificent. It is a deep questioning of our essence: "to be or not to be" in the presence of others.
Alice in Wonderland, Alice in the Kingdom of the Mirror, Snark Hunting, Excerpts from Author letters, as well as poetic, philosophical and theater texts: these are just some sources that are studied where each actor becomes a narrator, character, singer, musician and puppeteer, immersive in history. Each scene, every character, each spoken word opens the door to the world of secrets and magic. The performers, as artists in their workshop, will accept the challenges of Alice's universe and its constant metamorphoses in their joyful chaos, moving in their workshops.
Director Didier Girauldon is a theater and opera director, actor, producer and educator who has been involved in international projects for more than two decades in France, England, United States, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Italy, Denmark, Switzerland, Switzerland, Scotland and Canada. As a multidisciplinary artist, he explores collective creation, focusing on the dynamics of motion, text and rhythm.
