From Austria to Russia in 1850 the visiting Kapellmeister, composer Ludwig Minkus composed music for ballets. Together with the choreographer Marius Petipa, they gave the audience two unforgettable ballets - "The Bayader" and "Don Quixote". The premiere of the latter took place in 1869, and it was first staged in Lithuania in 1936, and later the audience saw several versions of Don Quixote.
The choreographer of this Don Quixote, Vasily Medvedev from St. Petersburg, set out to stage the ballet authentically, i.e. i.e. according to M. Petipa's original version. Based on 1871 As the prototype for Don Quixote staged in St. Petersburg, he abandoned many elements that later appeared in this ballet. On the other hand, the choreographer brought back the Prologue, which was missing from later versions of the performance. It is the Prologue, where we see the Knight of the Sorrowful Image, that justifies the name of the ballet.
Premiere in 2016 April 29
